Betty and her event planning team at Kemper museum or top notch! They were fabulous every step of the way and were incredibly helpful. The food was amazing and everything was just perfect. I couldn't have been happier with my decision to choose this location for my wedding reception!

The Kemper is a beautiful location. Right before we finalized our contract with them, they decided to close the restaurant for evening weddings when the museum is rented out - not sure who would want the restaurant serving the public when your wedding is going on...I digress. The Kemper is the perfect location for brides in KC who want something different from a hotel/country club wedding. It is relatively small (we maxed out at 200 people, 10 more than they wanted). Everything went smoothly, although they kept hounding us to provide proof of insurance (they contacted us far too many times and each time we told them we were waiting on the insurance agenc to provide the certificate). Other than that, it went really well. One thing to note is that the service is not ideal - most servers are from the Art Institute and are there for the art not for the restaurant (aka not "career" servers). Expect acceptable but not extraordinary service.

We used Cafe Sebastienne for food: Awesome, awesome food. We wanted a high-end buffet (we did not trust this staff to do a 200-person plated dinner - very few caterers in KC do that well). Ended up having a seafood buffet with poached salmon, Thai shrimp salad, fruit salad with watermelon, feta and mint and a fresh veggie salad. Our poultry buffet had lemon chicken breasts (we wanted something "simple" for those less adventurous), quail in a blackberry balsamic glaze, a wild rice/long grain rice salad and grilled veggies. Our meat buffet had grilled tenderoin in a red wine, wild mushroom reduction sauce, a roasted potato and asperigus. Our florist, Dan Meiner, along with our wedding coordinator, Steve Chick, and their staff helped set the buffets. The food was fantastic, perfect temperature, etc. Flawless execution of a relatively complicated menu!

The Kemper Art Museum was a gorgeous place for a reception. Julie and Pam are fabulous and so helpful, flexible, accommodating, etc. Our only disappointment was the media (tried to play 3 min DVD) and the person running that completely messed it up (started video mid-way through, never hooked up sound, etc.) Even with a practice run-through I wouldn't recommend playing any type of media there. The food was to die for though! And the bar and staff were great too.
